Beaver lodges, winter birds, and crackling, iced-over ponds-these are the features that draw snowshoe hikers to this lovely, 1400-acre property owned by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, set on the eastern slope of Lenox Mountain. All 7 miles of trails are blazed with blue and yellow, with the blues leading away from the sanctuary office and the yellows leading toward the office. You may encounter cross-country skiers here, but chances are there won’t be too many. This place is blissfully uncrowded, and its natural features make it a pleasant place to ramble on a snow-dappled day, just as the name implies.
