Just shy of a mile high, Mount Katahdin dominates the landscape of the more than 200,000 acres in Baxter State Park. About 175 miles of trails exist within the park, along with forty six peaks and ridges. But guess what? It’s not all that easy to access the park in winter. For those who want to sample a sliver of the park, it can be done on the Baxter State Park Loop, a combination of ski trails and the Park Tote Road. The road is open to snowmobiles, with a posted speed limit of twenty miles per hour. Skiers are on that portion for about 1.0 mile. Surface quality: Unpacked.
