This is one of the easier yet more beautiful trails in this region of Michigan. Members of the Youth Conservation Corps cut the trail in the 1970s. Set in a dense old-growth forest scattered with open pockets, it makes for a pleasant trek. There’s a choice of four major loops of 1.5, 2.7, about 5, and 5.5 miles.
It’s relatively flat, so it’s a good course for just relaxing and enjoying the scenery; beginners and intermediates can gain confidence. And there’s just enough elevation change to give you a good workout. By the time you’re back, you’ll probably want to change into something dry. Surface quality: Double track set. Groomed regularly.
