Turn into the beautifully lighted entrance and you’ll think you’ve entered cross-country heaven. What Garland lacks in trail difficulty, it makes up for in everything else. Start with the lodge: It’s the largest log structure east of the Mississippi and the state’s only resort facility given a four-diamond rating by the AAA. Trails meander along the edges of Garland’s golf courses and are not difficult. Surface quality: Groomed regularly with one to two tracks, depending on location.
