The 1999–2000 ski season saw the resurgence of Treetops as one of the best places for cross-country skiing. Changes in the trail system the previous season or two brought groans of disappointment from those used to a network that had been called one of the finest in the Midwest. Trails had been moved north and made less challenging. But the complaints were heard and starting in winter 1999, an improved system incorporating many of the old trails was opened to bring Treetops back to the fore-front of Michigan cross-country experiences. Surface quality: Groomed regularly, generally single track set, with one side left for skaters.
