This beautiful park is the result of the wish of a forward-thinking local lumberman’s widow to leave a glimpse of the great forest that once covered northern Michigan to awe future generations. At more than 9,200 acres, it’s the largest state park in the Lower Peninsula, including an 80-acre stand of virgin white pine and hemlock that makes for a peaceful, meditative ski experience. Surface quality: Dedicated cross-country trails are track set for traditional skiing and have enough room in most places for skaters.
