Many folks skiing the alpine slopes of the northern Lower Peninsula’s premier downhill ski area probably wonder just where all those free-wheeling Nordic-type skiers disappear to when they get off the chairlift at the top of the slopes. In fact, they head into the lush hardwoods around one of the state’s oldest ski resorts to experience a unique, challenging trail system. You can either pole your way up nearly 500 feet from the lower trails area or take the Disciples Ridge Chair Lift to the top for an incomparable view of the rolling glacial hills around northwestern Lower Michigan and have the satisfaction that you’re about to ski one of the state’s best.
