This little ski hideaway is a great find that’s generally used only by locals. It’s in a beautiful backcountry setting only a few miles outside the Upper Peninsula’s largest city, and takes in some of the most scenic, hilliest country in the U.P. The tract itself is 3,040 acres; most was owned by a local family until ending up in state control. Surface quality: Groomed and/or skier-set tracks. Snowshoers can walk alongside the tracks or head cross-country. Taking a compass and/or GPS is strongly advised.
