The Lake Michigan shoreline between St. Ignace and Brevort is one of the state’s most beautiful in any season. In summer cars line U.S. 2’s shoulder as soon as the dunes that buffer the shoreline here become visible. Families clamor out to enjoy the lake along the highway, which winds close to the water for a good 10 miles. In winter a few head for this trail system, in the same general area. The trailhead is at the site of Round Lake CCC Camp, which located here in 1935. Civilian Conservation Corps members were responsible for planting many of the pines you’ll see here to help stabilize the shifting sands and start building soil. It’s a wonderfully secluded ski area that doesn’t see much traffic. Surface quality: Groomed once a week.

This trail was fun. The best description I can give is that it is like skiing a roller coaster. There is good signage and most of the hills are named. Beware of some of the hills. I fell on one named Geronimo. A week later, my should still hurts.
