Across the channel from the trailhead warming shelter, Sturgeon Bay’s shipyards lie frozen in winter’s icy bond. You’ll quickly ski past very different scenes. The deep forest of paper birch, maple, and pine has a primeval feel. Just west of the park is a site where the Potawatomi tribe withstood a long siege inside a fortified village in the early 1650s. Surface quality: Groomed, single tracked, skate lane. Fees: yes.
