Want to join a 90-year-old ski club? For about the equivalent of a downhill ski ticket or a round of golf you can become a member of the Iola Winter Sports Club. Skiers have been jumping at Norseman Hill since the club was formed in 1910. Today there are five ski jumps, including a new 130-foot-high 60-meter jump. For those who don’t have the courage to get airborne, there are wonderful cross-country ski trails that are groomed with state-of-the-art equipment. You won’t find better grooming anywhere. You don’t have to be a club member to enjoy the trails; paying a daily fee opens up this cross-country wonderland. It is amazing how a town with barely more than a thousand residents supports a facility like this. It’s a credit to the community’s Norwegian heritage. Surface quality: Groomed frequently, single tracked, skate lane. Fees: yes.
