“I can make it to the top. I can make it to see the Rock.” Keep telling yourself that as the snowshoe trail gets steeper and steeper. The payback will be a chance to rest on the Rock, a great place for a picnic lunch, as you gaze at the broadening valley 200 feet below. Don and Donna Justin believe in snowshoeing. They believe that snowshoeing can take people who don’t want to ski hilly terrain to wonderful spots like the Rock overlook. Separate snowshoe trails and snowshoe signs are two of the Justins’ innovations. These features give the wonderful sense of solitude that makes snowshoeing a great way to get around. They reassure visitors that they are headed the right way and not on a detour to the North Pole. In addition to the Trail to the Rock, there are more than 3 miles of snowshoe trails on the property. The terrain is easier as you loop around to the Rock overlook. Take some time there to rest at this scenic spot. You may catch sight of the abundant wild turkeys or white-tailed deer. The trip back down is more direct as the trail heads into the valley. The last stretch runs along the ski trail. Be sure to wave. Surface quality: Ungroomed, snowshoer packed. Fees: yes.
