Although the Henry Reuss Ice Age Center doesn’t acknowledge it, glaciers create great skiing terrain. I guess the center focuses more on teaching the fascinating story of the advance and retreat of the Wisconsin glacier than tooting the skiing horn. Henry Reuss was a Wisconsin congressman who was the prime mover in creating the Ice Age Trail. He loved the rugged terrain for its beauty. In his book On the Trail of the Ice Age, he says the area is a priceless haven for flora and fauna. Skiers would just say, “Yahoo.” Surface quality: Groomed periodically, single track, skate lane. Fees: yes.
