The Nordic Ski Trails are originals. They were among the first cross-country trails in the Kettle Moraine State Forest during the boom years of the early 1970s and they are still terrific. The rolling kettle moraine gets a lot of the credit, as does the beautiful hardwood forest the trails wind through. The Orange Trail is actually the easiest loop on the Nordic Trails, but it is near the upper end of the more difficult range. If you find it a piece of cake, you might be ready for one of the other four loops. In any case, if you aren’t an expert skier, ski these trails only in good snow conditions. Surface quality: Groomed, single tracked, skate lane. Fees: yes.
