Want to visit New England, Germany, Norway, Denmark, and Finland all in the same day? No, I'm not talking about some jet set, trans-Atlantic Euro blitz. A pleasant few hours skiing at Old World Wisconsin State Historical Site will take you past reconstructed homes, shops, and barns of pioneer settlers from each of those homelands. The narrow, single track trails also give a feel for the past, so wax up those wood skis. The march of progress and the shrinking farm economy have taken their toll on many wonderful structures. In the mid–nineteenth century, immigrants flooded the state, spreading from Great Lakes ports to make new lives from the fertile land. The structures they built bore the character of their places of origin. Over the years many of these classic buildings were covered with clapboards, neglected, and sometimes abandoned. The State Historical Society rescued and reconstructed buildings in the beautiful countryside at Old World Wisconsin. In summer it is a living museum, with authentically dressed people demonstrating everything from blacksmithing to polka dancing. Surface quality: Groomed, single tracked. Fees: yes.

Please remove Old World Wisconsin from your Blue Trail Eagle Wisconsin Cross Country Ski Trails webpage as we are currently not offering cross country skiing (and haven't for several years). We don't want to mislead visitors that we will be open for cross country skiing this winter. We will make sure that we let visitors know if we do pursue this option in the future. Thanks very much-- Lisa McGovern Old World Wisconsin/Communications
