Las Vegas is a town that regularly implodes its history in favor of the new, bright, and shiny. However, every once in a while a bit of that history is spared from the wrecking ball. Such is the case with the Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail. This trail, which has been around since 1931, is one of the few places in Las Vegas where you can not only see history, you can ride through it. The Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail was once used to get many of the materials needed to build the Hoover Dam to the dam site. While the railroad tracks have long been removed, the overly large tunnels hewn into the iron-rich rocks still exist.

This is a beautiful stroll through the mountains that run alongside of Lake Mead, well at least you have the view of the lake. This is however a long walk and there is nothing that keeps it really all that interesting aside from brief periods of walking through these monstrous tunnels. If you are looking for a flat easy hike this is the trail for you.
