The Girl Scout/Caldera to West Leg Loop is a bit longer, but less technical than the Girl Scout/Inner Caldera to East Leg Loop. However, it still offers a very enjoyable and challenging ride. In fact, this loop combines two of the most popular trails in Bootleg Canyon and adds an enjoyable middle stretch to create one of the longest rides in the entire canyon. The ride begins by heading up the dirt road to the trailhead. The entrance can easily be seen to the left of the road at the point where the telephone pole and the road meet. When you see the trail that cuts out from the road, follow it to the right. The beginning of the trail is often called the “rock garden” because it is filled with all manner of rock obstacles, some small, some fairly large.
