This trail is one of the most popular rides in Bootleg Canyon, mainly because it offers some of the most wonderful views of the canyon as well as many of the bootlegging artifacts that give the canyon its name. Girl Scout is a challenging technical trail that is an uphill climb all the way—rewarded by a fun downhill ride back to the trailhead. This is a trail, however, that definitely requires shin guards. If you’re looking for remnants of a time when bootleg alcohol was stilled in rocky crevices, giving the canyon its name, then this is the ride for you. A little more than half a mile into the ride you can see a cave-like formation with a rusted stove pipe protruding upward through the rock. During Prohibition, it was common for bootleggers to blast holes in rocks large enough to house a still, thus keeping it out of view and away from prying eyes.
