This city park offers 338 acres with a 3.5-mile perimeter trail and interior trails for additional mileage. A mixture of technical trails and smooth, sandy terrain make this a popular destination for mountain bikers and runners. The views are expansive, and the main trails are well signed. The park has hosted numerous trail races, including the annual Blue Moon Trail Race Series to benefit the city of Colorado Springs’ community centers. From the start in Piñon Valley Park, turn right and head up the gravel road for a gut-busting, albeit relatively short—less than a quarter mile—climb. Head west on singletrack, and enjoy quick turns and occasional climbs on rocky and rooted terrain. Stay left at the junctions, reaching the top of the loop near Vindicator Drive. Make a left turn and return on the Ute Valley Park Trail to Piñon Valley Park.
