Purchased by Boulder County Parks and Open Space in 1993–1994, these 5,200 acres of sandstone-rich land near Lyons were used for quarry operations, and the quality and quantity of the rock is abundantly clear on the trails, which were built and then reinforced after the 2013 floods. They are presently—and promise to be for many decades to come—built with the meticulous dedication, mostly by Boulder Mountainbike Alliance volunteers, so that they conjure images of Roman or Greek architecture.
