From the Mount Sanitas Trailhead, where there is a covered shelter, head north and bear to the left as you begin a 1.4-mile steep climb up rocky, rough stair steps. You will cross a concrete bridge immediately beyond the shelter and then, in another 50 meters, you’ll cross a wooden bridge. The climb is steady and the footing is more challenging because of the erosion of soil or dirt that once filled in some of the spaces between the rocks, creating a spinelike stairway leading to the summit, where runners enjoy a fantastic view of Boulder and the surrounding foothills.
