The West Palisades Unit comprises 302 acres along 1.5 miles of Cochran, Thornton, and Devils Race Course Shoals on the Chattahoochee River. Both the West and East Palisades Units derive their names from the high cliffs along this part of the stream. The trail follows the riverbank and then moves into the rocky palisades uplands. A varied habitat of dense woods, tumbling streams, and rocky cliffs make this area especially interesting.
