The hike along the crest of West Mountain out to the West Mountain Shelter is quite popular for several reasons: The ascent of West Mountain along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is not especially steep or difficult, the walk along the ridge passes many excellent vantage points with views in all directions, and the West Mountain Shelter makes a great destination and place for a picnic.
