At the crossroads of historical discovery and love for nature lies the Wendover Ridge Trail (25). This arduous path climbs all the way out of the Lochsa River Canyon. Follow the footprints of Lewis and Clark on one of the most physical days the expedition endured. This section of trail is one the last sections that is completely unchanged from the time of the expedition. The trail starts among the big cedars of Wendover Creek and climbs more than 3,000 feet to a stunning vista point of the Lochsa Canyon and the east face of the Bitterroot Range. Continuing on you reach the Lolo Motorway. A short hike on the motorway delivers you to Snowbank Camp, where Lewis and Clark boiled snow to make horse soup.
