The richness of this hike, coupled with its leisure feel, make it a bang-for-your-buck stroll. This short trail wanders on the famed banks of Rock Creek. The bulk of the hike is on a small island in the creek. At the height of summer, the thick groves of cottonwood produce welcome shade.
Wildlife takes shelter in here during the heat of the day. Primitive trails spur off in all directions. The signed, well-defined main path goes out and back. Investigate the spur trails with a sense of adventure. Consider carrying bear spray, even though you are right next to the road. Recurrent floods have affected the trail in the past and may do so again in the future.
