This trail is popular with mountain bikers, and skiers glide on a groomed trail system adjacent to the Sam Braxton trail in winter. For hiking it’s a good option on a hot day. The wooded area provides good shade. The route takes hikers on a loop through big pines and larches.
Flowers and shrubs provide ground cover; bear grass flowers are especially prevalent every seven years during the big bloom. Elk, deer, bears, coyotes, mountain lions, birds of prey, and songbirds all make their home in this forest, which is recovering from the effects of selective logging.
