This classic loop is the heart and soul of Missoula, with sections of the route on Missoula’s boardwalk. The slogan “Keep Missoula weird” is taken to heart down here. Artists of all sorts (poets, musicians, painters, chess players) flock to the parks adjacent to this urban hiking path. Kayakers, surfers, skateboarders, in-line skaters, cyclists, volleyball players, runners, and a host of other impromptu sports enthusiasts frequent this greenway trail system on both sides of the mighty Clark Fork River. Interpretative signs and art, commissioned by the city, mark the path as well. Other sections of the pathway, such as the Clark Fork Natural Area near the Orange Street Bridge, are less urban and get hikers in touch with cottonwood trees and songbirds along the riverfront.
