Greenough Park is the gem of the Missoula Park system. Acres of cottonwood line Rattlesnake Creek, making it an oasis during summer, when Missoulians flock to the shaded waters. Birders thrive in the park as well and have spotted over 120 species of feathered friends in Greenough. The park is a living example of the legacy that conservation provides for generations. The land was donated to the city by Thomas L. and Tennessee Greenough as a place for “romantic and poetic retreat.” The Greenoughs also demanded that the park be kept in pristine natural order.
