This hike ties four key Rattlesnake National Recreation Area drainages into a tidy loop close to town. A large meadow, ridgetop, historic site, and creek bottom mark the diverse landscape on this walk.
The trails are single and double dirt tracks. Hike up to the big meadow in Sawmill Gulch, starting from the main trailhead. From there, crest the ridge and descend into Curry Gulch, home to a historic homestead. The trail then descends and merges with the Stuart Peak Trail in Spring Gulch. Keep following that creek down to the junction with the Rattlesnake Creek Trail. Be prepared to share the trail with mountain bikers. No dogs are permitted in either Sawmill or Curry Gulch.
