Jockey Hollow, just outside Morristown, is where George Washington and his troops spent two tough winters. He chose this location because the area’s hills gave him an easy place to defend. This moderately hilly ride takes you around some of the hills in the area and shows you some nice parts of Morris and Somerset Counties.
The mileage for the ride starts in the parking lot farthest from the visitor center. To start the ride, go back down the road you came in on and turn right onto Tempe Wick Road. The road starts out with a nice downhill. Enjoy it while you can, because no good downhill goes unpunished. Ahead of you is a steep little 80-foot climb on Talmage Road followed by some rollers then a downhill on Hilltop Road. This is a long, steep downhill, so be careful.
