Set on the shores of scenic Falls Lake, this trail-laden park offers a fun loop hike using the long-distance Falls Lake Trail combined with other shorter nature trails. Your circuit hike leaves the inviting environmental education center, passes a wildflower garden, then works down to Falls Lake, where it skirts the shore and heads out to sandy points. More views await at other overlooks as you walk the edge of the lake. Climb hills back to the trailhead. Blue Jay Point County Park was formed after Falls Lake came to be. Falls Lake was established after the US Army Corps of Engineers condemned the land currently under Falls Lake and the surrounding shoreline of what was then the free-flowing Neuse River. The Neuse River is formed at the confluence of the Eno River and the Flat River. This confluence occurs at what is now Falls Lake.
