This trek on Falls Lake explores relatively remote terrain. Leave Boyce Mill Road then descend to alluring Laurel Creek. Beyond the waterway rise to find an old homesite with several barns and structures worth exploring. Continue rolling through quiet, contemplative woods, finally dipping to a rocky stream and small cascade, a good place to turn around. Judging by the size of the parking area here at the dead end of Boyce Mill Road, not many people are hiking this segment of the Falls Lake Trail. And that may be a good thing. This is one of the quieter, more remote stretches of the Falls Lake Trail, as it travels through a relatively wide swath of US Army Corps of Engineers land. Although public lands border the entirety of Falls Lake, much of this shoreline land is but a thin strip.
