This longer loop at Umstead State Park takes you into the relatively remote heart of the park, where miles of streamside scenery present beauty in every season. Start at a fine picnic area then cross Potts Branch, with beauty of its own. Roll over hilly, rich woods then drop into Sycamore Creek. Enjoy everywhere-you-look streamside splendor, from wildflowers to rocky bluffs, deep pools, and dancing rapids. Follow the stream for miles before looping up a tributary. The last part of the circuit is a backtrack.
