The villages of Port Washington and Sea Cliff are separated by Hempstead Harbor, a tranquil bay on the North Shore of Long Island. The two villages are alike: Both are picturesque, small, full of parks, and rich in history. The larger of the two is Port Washington, 5 square miles, to the 1 square mile of Sea Cliff. Despite being small, Sea Cliff is home to sixteen parks and dozens of late nineteenth-century structures, from which it derives its slogan, “A Victorian Village by the Sea.” The two villages are connected by a third, Roslyn, immediately recognizable by a distinctive clock tower built at the end of the nineteenth century. Make sure to follow the sign for the marginal road on the route back on West Shore Road to avoid a short stretch of shoulder-less road in a high-speed corner. The Village of Roslyn is extremely popular with tourists and very busy. Use caution when navigating the short ride through the downtown.
