There are some strenuous climbs as the trail makes its way alongside a stream, past a waterfall, and out of the first valley. Above the falls, smaller feeder streams wash over mossy rock outcroppings, creating grotto-like falls. If you’ve never been to this area of the Laurel Highlands, you’re in for a treat. Driving the last few miles on PA 381 to the tiny village of Rector makes the whole trip worthwhile—and you don’t even have to get out of your car. In this remote area it’s hard to know where the countryside ends and the state parks begin. As Linn Run makes its way down the gorge from the Laurel Highlands to the Ligonier Valley, it widens substantially and takes on a more serene feel.
