This hike uses a challenging, little-known cross-country skiing trail to take you across the ridgetops and in and out of the 500-foot-deep hemlock valleys.
It connects with an abandoned narrow-gauge railroad bed that runs for 2.0 miles over extremely rocky terrain. From there it runs up another ridge to an overlook 300 feet above the valley and then down the ridge to a nature trail through a second-growth pine and hemlock forest.
