Set this hike aside to do after it rains and all your favorite trails are muddy. Except for a 0.1-mile stretch on a shale road, the trail surfaces here are paved. This hike is suitable for all ages.
And, although it is almost a 4-mile loop, you could walk, say, to the historic Waterville Bridge and never be farther than a mile or so from your vehicle. Other highlights include the stone ruins of a flooded-out nineteenth-century dam and the abandoned canal system that was connected to the dam.
