This trail offers many of the same views as the Red Rock Scenic Loop, only without the entrance fee. It is one of the favorite trails of road bikers, who tend to ride it early in the morning and on the weekends. There is a very good chance to encounter burrows on the road or in the ditch off to the side of the road while riding this trail. This trail follows SR 159 as it makes its way through the Red Rock Escarpment and the Calico Hills—part of the Calico Basin—along the bike lane on each side of the two-lane road that is heavily used by vehicles, all taking the scenic drive. State Route 159 (SR 159) is a Nevada Scenic Byway, meaning it is one of twenty distinct and diverse roads established by the Nevada Department of Transportation. This 32-mile ride is composed of alternating long, gradual climbs and downhill sections.
