The White Saddle Challenge is a challenging off-road ride that begins tamely on paths and roads in Duarte and Monrovia. After entering Monrovia Canyon, the ride leaves civilization and climbs earnestly into the San Gabriel Mountains, with a junction at White Saddle (3,229 feet).
From there, after more climbing to the high point of 3,618 feet, the route plummets dramatically into San Gabriel Canyon. This portion of the ride is not for the squeamish—those with a fear of heights might be alarmed by the experience. The descent is otherwise exhilarating, eventually returning the rider to the quiet residential environment of Duarte.
