The Mounts Lowe and Wilson Expedition is a 24.7-mile mountainous affair, opening with 13.3 miles of continuous climbing at grades of 9% to 11%, followed by 8.5 miles of downhill at grades of 9% to 10%, and then closing with 2.5 miles of moderate climbing to complete the ride. The net elevation change is 4,444 feet, making this the “mother” of all mountain bike rides in this book. To give the reader an idea of the challenge, many riders bypass the climb and get shuttled to the top for the exciting downhill!
