The Way of the Wilson and May Canyons is a challenging mountain bike loop that begins on pavement in the Los Angeles community of Sylmar, climbs Wilson Canyon, descends the paved May Canyon, and then traverses some Sylmar roads, including an unpaved segment, to return to El Cariso Regional Park.
The ride offers several challenges: The first one is to find the Wilson Canyon trailhead, which is somewhat hidden behind the buildings of a medical campus. The second challenge is Wilson Canyon itself, which features deep, loose dirt, making pedaling a challenge. The third challenge, albeit a minor one, is an unrideable segment on the return trip to Sylmar, requiring a dismount and short walk.
