This loop route travels beneath the lush canopy of 5,000-acre Forest Park—one of the largest city parks in North America. Thanks should go to those living in Portland at the turn of the twentieth century who had the foresight to secure what today is a wonderful park system enjoyed by hikers, runners, and mountain bikers alike. You’ll begin this route on Leif Erikson Drive, which winds for 11.0 miles through the park. At 0.3 mile you’ll turn onto Wild Cherry Trail and begin ascending a series of switchbacks through a shady forest canopy to the intersection with Wildwood Trail at 0.9 mile. This gorgeous singletrack trail, the best-known trail in the park, is more than 26.0 miles long. You’ll follow Wildwood Trail as it sweeps along the ridgeline through a shady forest of bigleaf maple and Douglas fir trees.
