A hike up a mountain along Somes Sound, the only true fjord in the eastern United States. Of all the summits in Acadia National Park, only Acadia Mountain has a ridge that runs from east to west. Located on the west shore of Somes Sound, Acadia Mountain offers the best possible view of this striking fjord. General location: South of Somesville between Somes Sound and Echo Lake in the west section of Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park.
