A hike on a sand beach and along oceanside cliffs. Sand beach is a rarity in this part of Maine. This is one of the few sandy, protected beaches in the area. The views of the mountains of Acadia and of offshore islands are breathtaking. General location: Great Head on the southeast coast of Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park. Walk down to the beach and head east, crossing a small stream flowing from a freshwater lagoon behind the beach. Head for the far corner of the beach and look for a wooden trail post and stone steps leading up to a clearing with a huge millstone.

Nice easy trail that is great for kids and the whole family. Great views at every corner. If it were longer, it would get five starts.
