A hike through upland woods and along several ocean coves. One particular attraction at this park is the clamming. In most parts of Maine, you must have a permit to dig clams-if the clamflats are even open. But here you can dig up to 1 peck of soft-shelled clams per person. If you camp at the park, you will probably want to experience the thrill of digging your own clams and steaming them at your campsite. General location: Just off U.S. Highway 1 near Whiting in Washington County.

Gorgeous hike in the winter. Multi-colored rocks, stones and pebbles on the shore. Small ice floes linger and the array of birds... Short, but wonderful, hike. Locals told me it's the one place in Maine you can clam w/o a permit.
