A walk along a small harbor and down a tidal river to Penobscot Bay. At Ducktrap Harbor, an extreme low tide uncovers a huge area of sandy flats. These flats are frequented by clamdiggers, who come here for a hard-shelled clam known as a surf clam. Soft-shell clams and razor clams are also found. Sand dollars abound, as do shells from a variety of marine animals. Porpoises are frequent visitors to the waters off the mouth of the river, as are harbor seals. General location: Just north of Lincolnville Beach on U.S. Highway 1 in Waldo County.
