One of the sparkliest jewels in the Cascade Lakes crown, stunningly beautiful Moraine Lake is a must-see. On this approach, you’ll start on the Elk-Devils Trail, cross through Wickiup Plain to the lake, and then circle back to Devils Lake on the South Sister Climbers Trail. Besides visiting one of the most picturesque alpine lakes in the area, you’ll also be rewarded with striking views of South Sister and the surrounding topography.
Start on Elk-Devils Trail No.12. Within 0.1 mile, the trail reaches the trailhead kiosk, where you'll fill out your free wilderness permit. the trail is sandy with a lot of scattered rocks, making climbing a bit more difficult than it would be on a packed-down trail.
