This ride dishes up a little of everything: Shale, silt, wash crossings, sandstone slabs, sand, hard-packed road, clay, a gravel-like sandstone conconction, and serpentine single-track ...not to mention outstanding scenery. A favorite of local fat-tire fans, who call it the Jem Loop, the 12.5-mile ride is rated moderate in terms of both aerobic and technical difficulty.
If you did Gooseberry Slickrock Trail, you looked down on some of the country traversed on this ride; here you’ll have the opportunity to look back up at the bulk of Gooseberry Mesa. Pay very close attention to your mileage, because accidentally getting off the route is a nearly constant possibility. General location: Just outside of Virgin, on the other (south) side of the Virgin River.
