This nine-mile combination ride consists of an eight-mile loop with a one-mile out-and-back leading to the Little Black Mountain Petroglyph Site. It is easy aerobically, but technically it earns a rating somewhere between easy and moderate. You’ll ride over narrow roads and tracks covered with sand and clay, as well as along a short stretch of wider gravel road. This ride and the next (Sunshine Loop) begin at the same trailhead. Both are located in Arizona, but it’s that northwest corner of Arizona known as the Arizona Strip, which is cut off from the rest of the state by the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. As a result, in many ways the area is more like part of Utah; for instance, the lands traversed on these rides are administered by the St. George Bureau of Land Management office. General location: Ten miles south of St. George.
