Marysvale “Flat” might be an overstated name for this ride, since on it you’ll gain some 600 feet of elevation. However, Marysvale Not-So-Flat, it really is quite level. The 15.5-mile loop is rated aerobically easy to moderate, but technically it is very easy. Road surfaces include pavement and good gravel, making it excellent for a leisurely (or not so leisurely) cruise. You’ll pass a lot of intriguing roads and double-tracks that look like they’d provide excellent exploring and which, if pursued, would up the difficulty level of the adventure. Incidentally, just north of Marysvale on US 89 is the multihued feature known as Big Rock Candy Mountain, the inspiration for both the song and the Wallace Stegner novel of the same name. General location: The ride begins in Marysvale.
